REVIEW
Manuscript evaluation processes aim to improve the way in which knowledge is produced and communicated at each stage of the editorial process by involving all the people involved in it.

Editorial review
Once the manuscripts have been received by the OJS manager of the journal Bioética UNAM, it will be verified that they comply with the guidelines established in the instructions for publication [link to instructions]. If the document does not contain what is required, corrections and adjustments may be requested so that the item is delivered as requested.

Similarity check
To ensure academic integrity and prevent plagiarism, those texts that comply with the instructions for publication will continue the evaluation process with the iThenticate tool. The method for analysis will be quantitative, but with a high qualitative emphasis. The ranges considered for percentage of similarity are:

  • 1 % to 15 %: minor coincidences and turns to opinion.
  • 15 % to 25 %: Qualitative verification is carried out and, if necessary, returned to the author for changes.
  • 25 % to 30 %: An in-depth internal analysis is carried out by the editorial team.
  • Greater than 31 %: the manuscript is rejected.

If a complaint of plagiarism is received after the publication of an article and this is verified by the Editorial Board of the Journal, the manuscript will be removed from the website of the published issue and from all repositories and databases in which the text appears.

Peer review
Once it is verified that the manuscripts comply with the instructions for publication and having been analyzed by a similarity search tool to ensure academic integrity, they will continue with the peer review under the double-blind modality. Once this process has been completed, the works may be approved with minor modifications, approved with major modifications, or rejected.

Once this process has been concluded, the result will be notified to the authors within a maximum period of four months.
