With the aim of promoting ethical practices in knowledge communication processes, based on the "Recommendations for the use of generative artificial intelligence in teaching" of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, the "Recommendations on the use of chatbots and generative artificial intelligence in relation to academic publications" of the World Association of Medical Editors [WAME] and the "Recommendation on the ethics of Artificial Intelligence" of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization [UNESCO], the journal Bioética UNAM states the following about the use of artificial intelligence in manuscripts submitted for publication:
- No artificial intelligence system or tool should be listed as responsible for the authorship of the manuscript.
- Authors who use AI tools to support the writing of the manuscript or for the creation of illustrations must communicate such use in the acknowledgements section of the manuscript and inform the indications used to generate text or convert text into tables or illustrations.
- Authors who use AI tools to support the development of analytical work must disclose in the abstract and in the methodology of the document, which AI tool was used and its version, time, and date of consultation, as well as the script used.
- Authors must expressly state that the version of the text submitted to Bioética UNAM was edited by human authorship.
- The editorial team of Bioética UNAM reserves the right to submit the process of the use of artificial intelligence to a specific opinion when it deems it appropriate. This opinion on the use of artificial intelligence is not a substitute for a double-blind assessment of the scientific quality of the work submitted.
