Each manuscript submission must include:

1. Letter of originality and non-application/Assignment of rights signed by all authors who have contributed to the preparation of the manuscript [download form here].

2. Text file including the complete content of the manuscript. The file must be anonymized or blinded, it is very important that the document does not show any data of the authors.

3. Title page that includes the data of the manuscript and of the persons in which it should be noted:

1) Title, in English and Spanish. It is advisable not to use acronyms or abbreviations.
2) Full name of each author.
3) Information about each author: affiliation, no acronyms, country and ORCID identifier.
4) Corresponding contact information for the manuscript (e-mail, full address, and telephone number).
5) Acknowledgements for collaborators who do not meet the requirements to be part of the co-authorship of the work.

On another page will be the abstract, both in English and Spanish, written in the third person of the past tense, and with an extension of no more than 300 words. The main text of the manuscript should start on a separate page, and the decided sections should be clearly marked with headings.

Tables and figures should be placed at the end of the manuscript file. All must be cited in the text in the place where they will be located. The title of the tables should be placed at the top, and the explanation and symbology at the bottom. It is preferable to use tables and figures when the information cannot be clearly placed or summarized, or when it is a central element of the work.

FORMAT
Texts must be submitted in electronic format for word processing with 12-point Arial font, space and a half spacing, justification on the left, margins of 2.5 cm, on letter-size sheet and with numbered pages. Tables and figures should be placed at the end of the document.

Citation shall be in Chicago style and authors are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of references in that citation style. References should be placed at the end of the manuscript in alphabetical order.

Consult the characteristics of the Chicago citation style, author-date system, to meet the needs of the journal Bioética UNAM.

JOURNAL SECTIONS

ORIGINAL THEORETICAL AND EMPIRICAL ARTICLES
Articles that offer a significant theoretical or conceptual contribution to bioethical discussions will be considered; as well as interpretations, syntheses or novel criticisms of an existing experimental or theoretical work. Articles that address social, cultural or philosophical aspects of bioethics will be considered. Texts that make some contribution to empirical bioethics will also be considered, that is, works that seek to integrate ethical (normative) research with empirical research in natural or social sciences. Empirical research articles must have the usual structure for their contents: title (English-Spanish), abstract (English-Spanish), keywords (English-Spanish), introduction, methodology, results, discussion, conclusions and references. If necessary, these texts must be accompanied by the approval of an institutional ethics committee. Manuscripts of either of these two types of texts must contain a maximum of eight thousand to ten thousand words (not including references). These texts will be submitted to editorial evaluation and, if relevant, and cover what is requested by the journal (including the analysis of similarity of texts), they will advance to a double-blind peer evaluation.

CRITICAL NOTES OR DISCUSSIONS
Bioethics UNAM accepts critical notes and discussions of books of relevance to bioethics or articles that have been published in the journal. It also accepts discussion texts of cases of bioethical relevance or for jurisprudence that has implications in the area. Manuscripts must contain a maximum of three thousand to four thousand words (not including references). If they are pertinent and cover what is requested by the journal (including the analysis of similarity of texts), they will be submitted to the review of a member of the Steering Committee, who may accept or reject them. If they are relevant and cover what is requested by the journal, they will advance to a double-blind, peer evaluation.

CRITICAL REVIEWS
Reviews of books on topics of bioethical interest published during the two years prior to the submission of the review will be considered. Only critical, not descriptive, reviews will be considered. Manuscripts must not exceed three thousand words. If they are pertinent and comply with the requests of the journal (including the analysis of similarity of texts), they will be submitted to the review of a member of the Steering Committee, who may accept them, reject them or, where appropriate, request an external, double-blind evaluation.
